action

Egon Brümmer is an integral part of the Borkenheider musical club with his half-strong "boys". When the operator of the clubhouse forbids them to rehearse in his rooms, Egon and his friend Paul react to the visitor to a Christmas party that is not far away. Both were sentenced to half a year in prison for assault and without parole. When Egon comes out of prison, he wants to leave his old life behind. He tries to avoid the boys, but they have no understanding for his change of opinion. As before his stay in prison, he begins to work as a construction worker.

At a high school graduation ball, Egon meets the young Christine Lange, who wants to study medicine. In the circle of friends she is called the “eighth wonder of the world” because it would be a miracle if she fell in love one day. Egon makes her believe that she is a construction specialist and they dance together. He invites her to visit one of his group's concerts, but she tells him that she will take part in a work assignment in the youth facility " Große Wiese " for the next few weeks . When the boys occupy the youth club, a fight breaks out, in which Egon is also involved. Christine turns away from him, disappointed. The next day, Egon is called to the FDJ secretary on the building site. He learns that he should be delegated to the youth facility “Große Wiese” for a new start for six weeks. He enthusiastically agrees, he'll see Christine again there. In front of his boys, he pretends to be a punishment for the brawl in the youth club, which he only does involuntarily. The boys show solidarity with him and want to go with him immediately, but Egon fights off. Paul ensures that he accompanies Egon alone. The day before he left, Egon gave Paul a lot of alcohol and hid his alarm clock so that Paul overslept. Egon claims to his fellow travelers that Paul has changed his mind and the Borkenheider leave without him.

In the “Große Wiese” area, Egon becomes the spokesman for the passengers, organizes the work and keeps the group together. Soon he was elected brigadier by his colleagues . Together with Werner Schmiedeberg, the new clubhouse manager in Borkenheide, he also decides that the boys in the group will sign voluntarily not to enter into love relationships with the girls during work, as work should be the focus. Soon the Brigade around Egon was characterized by excellent work results. Egon himself finds it difficult to keep the declaration given, since he has fallen in love with Christine. Over time, she too realizes that he is serious. Attempts to tell her about his imprisonment, however, fail. To keep the boys and Paul at a distance, he wrote them that the work was terrible. In doing so, he achieved the opposite: the boys came to support him. They realize that he lied to them. Paul in particular threatens to tell Christine and the rest of the brigade about Egon's prison sentence. You write him a speech because he is supposed to speak as a brigadier at the mountain festival of the labor deployment. During the speech, Egon tangled up several times and finally threw everything down. When the boys want to take him back into their midst, he publicly renounces them. In front of the assembled youth, he also confesses that he was in prison. A commotion breaks out and Christine goes sad. The boys are expelled from the camp.

Werner Schmiedeberg has recognized that Egon has improved. He inconspicuously arranges a reconciliation meeting for Egon and Christine and they actually find each other again.
