Nothing is currently known about Zieten's origins and the early years up to 1945; only several letters to the writer Gertrud von Le Fort from 1929 to 1934 have survived. From May 1, 1954 to August 31, 1974, von Zieten was employed by DEFA feature film production and worked as a producer or production manager on a large number of cinema and television films, including children's and fairy tale films such as Die Fahrt nach Bamsdorf , Kaule and The night in the border forest , comedies like The Bewitched Fishing Village and Aber Vati! as well as Zeitstoffe ( Young Woman from 1914 ), but also the highly problematic fairy tale fabric Das Kleid at the time of its creation ( construction of the Wall in 1961) .
