The Egyptian Communist Party ( Arabic الحزب الشيوعي المصري, DMG al-ḥizb aš-šuyūʿī al-miṣrī , abbreviation ÄKP ) is a party in Egypt that was founded in 1975 by a group of members of the dissolved Egyptian Communist Party from 1958.

The party is led by its general secretary Salah Adli .

history

The new Communist Party was approved under the government of President Anwar al-Sadat , but the party under President Hosni Mubarak faced political persecution and was excluded from the elections. The party operated underground until the fall of Mubarak in 2011 . Although members of the Egyptian Communist Party under Mubarak have often been arrested and some have been assassinated, the party has been involved in the mobilization of workers since 2011.

On May 20, 2011, the Egyptian Communist Party agreed to join a “ Socialist Front” with four other left-wing Egyptian groups: The Coalition of Socialist Forces , which also includes the Revolutionary Socialists , the People's Socialist Alliance , the Socialist Party of Egypt and the Democratic Labor Party .
