Former catholic cemetery (Gürzenich)

The former Catholic cemetery is located in the Gürzenich district of Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia in the street An St. Johannes .

In the cemetery wall there is a round-arched sandstone gate with the inscription dating 1699. The cemetery was built in the vicinity of the former parish church of Gürzenich. There you can see grave crosses from the 17th and 18th centuries. The grave slabs of the Lords of Schellart from the 16th and 17th centuries and a grave sculpture created by Ludwig Schwanthaler are also located in the cemetery . It stands on the grave of Otto Schillings († 1845). It is a female statue in ancient clothing as a personification of mourning. The figure is made of marble and is about 180 cm tall.

The cemetery is now used as a green area.

The complex is entered in the list of monuments of the city of Düren under No. 6/014.
