Former citizens' hospital in Waidhofen an der Ybbs

The former Bürgerspital stands on the southwest corner of the former city fortifications at Eberhardplatz No. 6 in the statutory town of Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria . The former civic hospital and today's residential building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In 1274 a foundation for a leper house was established by the citizen Hugo Eberhard. As a leprosy house, initially outside of the city fortifications in front of the Weyrer-Tor, this area was included in the second wall ring around 1400 and the hospital gate in front was built as a result. In 1328 the hospital was donated by Elisabeth , wife of Friedrich the Beautiful .

architecture

The Bürgerspital stands just outside the former Weyrer-Tor and is structurally connected to the Bürgerspitalkirche . The citizen hospital complex stands on a partially walled area with remains of the city wall with loopholes. A small biedermeier pavilion is integrated into the wall under a stepped mansard roof.

The essentially medieval hook-shaped two-storey building under a hipped roof has a facade with corner blocks and profiled cornices with a two-axis connecting wing (over a flat arched passage) to the Bürgerspitalkirche. There are Biedermeier stone robe portals.

Inside the building there are partly groin vaults and joists from the 16th century on the ground floor.
