The Ehm Welk house in Bad Doberan is the former home of the writer Ehm Welk . The simple single-family house made of red brick is now a cultural meeting place.
history
In 1950 the writer Ehm Welk designated the house at Dammchaussee 23 in Bad Doberan as his new residence. He lived in this house until his death on December 19, 1966.
Since December 1979 the house has served as a public, cultural meeting place. This fulfilled Ehm Welk's wish not to make the house a memorial, but a place filled with life.
Exhibition area
On the property there are three exhibition areas on the life and work of Ehm Welk: the hall of the house, the summer study room and the garden shed.
Photos, documents, first editions and gifts are exhibited in the hall. Here you can find out more about Ehm Welk's biography and bibliography . A showcase is also dedicated to the author's second wife, Agathe Lindner-Welk . The study has been preserved in its original form and contains, among other things, the author's library of 5,000 volumes . The spacious garden is used for summer theater performances, summer festivals and houses the garden shed, where further information is given about the animal lover and nature lover Ehm Welk. The former living room is now the venue for readings, literary colloquiums , concerts, theater performances, cabaret evenings, musical-literary events and exhibitions, as well as for the traditional Ehm-Welk events that take place every year.
