Badge of honor for popular education in the GDR

The badge of honor for merits in socialist education was an award from the Ministry for National Education in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated on December 1, 1973. It was the successor to the badge of honor of the Ministry of Popular Education , the award of which was discontinued from this point on. The award of the badge of honor could be awarded for special achievements in voluntary work as well as for long-term voluntary participation in socialist education. Also for voluntary work in the education of young people. The award itself was carried out by the leading bodies of the people's educational institutions in the local bodies on behalf of the State Secretariat for Vocational Training.

The badge of honor consists of a 24 mm wide stylized tape with the inscription EHRENNADEL on a white background. At its ends there are two suspensions, from which a 25 mm diameter medal hangs consisting of the GDR's national coat of arms. The national coat of arms is surrounded by the inscription * FOR MERIT IN SOCIALIST EDUCATION * .
