The badge of honor of the Ministry of National Education was an award from the Ministry of National Education in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated on March 28, 1963. The badge of honor was usually awarded by the local public education organs, mainly by the district and city school councils. The award honored all those who had distinguished themselves through special achievements as well as for successful cooperation in socialist education and upbringing. Also for special achievements in building up the socialist school system. The awards ended in 1973. The successor was the badge of honor for merits in socialist education .

The bronze badge of honor is almost square 24.5 mm high and 18.5 mm wide and shows the embossed state coat of arms of the GDR on a recessed granular or smooth background. Above the inscription, also embossed: EHRENNADEL and under the national coat of arms, the two-line inscription: MINISTERIUM FÜR VOLKSBILDUNG . There are also gold-plated specimens of this variant known, which were awarded from 1970. There are also pieces with a size of 33 × 22.5 mm.
