The coat of arms of Kampfgeschwader 257 largely corresponded to the plaque of honor

The honorary plaque of the Kampfgeschwader 257 was a non-wearable award of the German Air Force during the Second World War , given by Colonel Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen , in his capacity as a squadron commodore, whose function he held from April 1, 1938 to October 1, 1938, for the members of the Kampfgeschwader 257 was donated. Before the outbreak of war, the squadron was renamed Kampfgeschwader 26 . Von Richthofen himself was one of the winners, and was given the plaque by his successor, who later became General of the Aviators, Hans Siburg , when he left the squadron .

The rectangular plaque of honor made in bronze is 105 mm high, 75 mm wide, has a raised embossed edge and is almost entirely filled with the squadron coat of arms , a left-facing lion with the inscription: VESTIGIUM LEONIS (The Lion's Track). Not least because of this, the Kampfgeschwader 257 also received its nickname “ Lion Squadron” . Under the squadron coat of arms the inscription: Kampfgeschwader 257 can be read, under whose line the name of the entrusted as well as his data on membership of the squadron are engraved.
