Medal of honor of St. Stephen
The medal of honor of St. Stephanus was donated by Archbishop Cardinal Franz König in 1964 and can be awarded by the Archbishop of Vienna for special services to the Archdiocese of Vienna .
Classes
The badge of honor is awarded in three classes:
- The gold medal is awarded for services that affect the area of the entire archdiocese.
- The silver medal is awarded for services that go beyond a single parish but do not affect the entire diocesan area.
- The bronze medal of honor is awarded for services that do not go beyond the scope of a parish.
Design of the decoration
The badge of honor consists of a circular medal with an image of St. Stephen's Cathedral and the coat of arms of the Archdiocese of Vienna as well as the inscription "The Archdiocese of Vienna" on the front . On the back there is an image of the coat of arms of the respective Archbishop of Vienna and the inscription "For special merits" (§ 2 of the statute).
Carrying method
The medal is worn on a triangular ribbon in the colors of the archdiocese - red-white-red on a yellow background.
Additional award criteria
The medal of honor of St. Stephen
- is usually only awarded to people who have already reached the age of 40 and who are distinguished by their flawless lifestyle.
- is not awarded to clergy, members of institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life, church employees and persons with church service mandate in an employment relationship with a regional authority.
