Calibration validity period

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The calibration of measuring devices is only valid until the calibration validity period has expired . In the measurement and calibration ordinance MessEV valid today, only the term calibration period is used.

Measuring devices that are subject to verification (for example, in the movement of goods subject to verification, in trade or in medicine) may only be used for these purposes until the verification validity period has expired . The basis is the Measurement and Verification Act MessEG and the Measurement and Verification Ordinance MessEV (formerly the Verification Act and the Verification Order ).

Depending on the type of measuring device, the calibration period is for example 6 years for cold water meters , 5 years for hot water meters , 16 years for electricity meters with induction mechanism (with rotor disc), 8 years for electricity meters with electronic measuring mechanism, 1/2 year for breath alcohol meters , for diaphragm gas meters G4 - G6 8 Years, G10 12 years, from G16 16 years etc. The calibration period is specified in Appendix 7 to Section 34 Paragraph 1 No. 1 MessEV (“calibration period”).

The year of calibration , in which a measuring device subject to calibration was calibrated by the calibration office or by a state-approved test center, is indicated by the two digits on the main stamp. It does not have to match the year of manufacture and was previously also known as the year of certification . After the end of the calibration year, the calibration validity period begins, i.e. H. a measuring device calibrated in 2010 with a 6-year calibration period may be used until the end of 2016.

The calibration validity period of certain consumption measuring devices for electricity, gas or water can be extended (if necessary several times) if an officially conducted random test shows that the measuring devices used are measuring correctly. If the sample test is passed, the calibration validity is extended by half the calibration validity period (e.g. by a further 3 years for water meters) without this being recognizable on the measuring device itself.

From November 2016, only MID -compliant measuring devices will be placed on the market in the area of consumption measurement (gas, electricity, water meters) . The term “calibration” is replaced by “MID declaration of conformity”, the year of placing on the market corresponds to the year of calibration. The year of the declaration of conformity or manufacture is framed on the dial after the CE mark, but the calibration period does not begin until it is put on the market .
