Eichthal was the name of a Bavarian baronial family whose aristocratic lineage begins with Aron Elias Seligmann . The family had obtained their wealth primarily through the lease of the salt monopoly in Württemberg. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Seligmanns were among the most important court bankers in Baden and Bavaria.

history

The Jewish court factor Aron Elias Seligmann, who came from Leimen , was raised to the Bavarian nobility as Freiherr von Eichthal in 1814 in recognition of his services to the Wittelsbach family . The name Eichthal is based on Maria Eich in the Würmtal near Planegg, where Seligmann owned properties. Associated with this was the award of the coat of arms of the von Thalmann family from Augsburg and the ennoblement of his ten children. The head of the family and his children gradually converted to the Catholic faith.
