Federal Song Festival 1870

The 14th Federal Singers' Festival took place in Neuchâtel from 9 to 11 July 1870 . Thus, for the first time, a French-speaking city hosted the song festival. A total of 2500 singers took part in 54 clubs. The festival was organized by the German-speaking male choir Frohsinn Neuenburg - despite the negative attitude of the Francophone Orphéon de Neuchâtel.

The later Federal Councilor Eugène Borel acted as party president . The president of the jury was the Chur music director Heinrich Szadrowsky , the festival director of the overall performance was the Neuchâtel choir director Eduard Munzinger .
