Federal Song Festival 1880

The 17th Federal Singers' Festival took place from July 10th to 12th, 1880 in Zurich . A total of 3900 singers took part in 90 clubs.

The festival was organized by the oldest Zurich associations Harmony and Male Choir. The previous ranking system in the competition categories was abolished, and laurel wreaths were awarded ex aequo for the highest performance level .

The Mayor of Zurich Melchior Römer acted as the festival president . The president of the jury was the Lucerne general music director Gustav Arnold , who together with the Wettinger conductor Karl Attenhofer also acted as the festival director of the overall performance.
