The Eigen-ji ( Japanese 永 源 寺 ) is a Buddhist temple in the administrative area of ​​the Japanese city ​​of Higashiōmi (Shiga Prefecture) and has been one of the main temples of the Rinzai-shū since the Meiji period (1880) with currently around 120 branch temples . The temple was founded in 1361 by the governor of Ōmi province , Sasaki Ujiyori ( 佐 々 木 氏 頼 ; 1326-1370). The Zen master Jakushitsu Genkō ( 寂 室 元 光 ; 1290-1367) was appointed as the first headmaster .
