The eight northern pueblos ( English Eight Northern Pueblos ) are settlements of Indians of the Pueblo culture in New Mexico . These are Taos Pueblo , Picuris Pueblo , Santa Clara Pueblo , Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo (formerly San Juan ), San Ildefonso , Nambé Pueblo , Pojoaque Pueblo , and Tesuque .

Taos and Picuris are Tiwa- speaking pueblos ; the residents of the other pueblos speak Tewa . Both languages ​​are closely related. The Eight Pueblos also form the Eight Northern Pueblos Council , which is responsible for organizing craft markets, legal representation of interests for the pueblos and other things. The headquarters of the Eight Northern Pueblos are located in Ohkay Owingeh . This pueblo was known as San Juan until 2005 when the original Tewa name was officially adopted again.
