Eilean Dubh ( German : Black Island ) is a small Scottish island. It is located at the northernmost point of the inlet Kyles of Bute , which separates the island of Bute from the Cowal Peninsula on the Scottish mainland, at the junction of Loch Riddon . Administratively it belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute . In addition to the Burnt Islands , located about one kilometer southeast, Eilean Dubh is the only larger island in the 27 km long Kyles of Bute. At the northernmost point of the island and on the opposite side of the land there are small beacons for ship traffic.
The approximately 300 m long and 160 m wide island is only 80 m off the Cowal coast. Buttock Point , Bute's northernmost headland, is half a mile away. It is a wooded, rocky island, the highest point of which rises 19 m above the surface of the water. Eilean Dubh is uninhabited, but the Clark family's private cemetery is located there . On this approximately 100 m 2 area there are a total of eight gravestones, the oldest of which dates from 1937. The cemetery is currently still used as such.
