A case for Jeff Jordan (French: Gil Jourdan ) is probably the most famous comic series by the Belgian comic artist and author Maurice Tillieux . It is about a private detective who and his team solve extremely tricky criminal cases that cannot be solved by the police. A case for Jeff Jordan first appeared as a sequel in Spirou magazine , later the stories were published in a total of 16 albums and a single volume; only the scenarios for albums 13 to 16 come from Tillieux, the drawings were made by his pupil Gos . The comics are set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, which you can see for yourself partly in the cars and partly in the typical surroundings. The comic was Germanized, which means that, for example, the name of the main characters' place of residence was given the name Großburgstadt. Many other shops, names and companies were also Germanized.

With the death of Tillieux in 1978, the series ended, because although some artists published short stories in homage to Tillieux, no one officially continued the series.

main characters

Jeff Jordan (in the original: Gilbert Jourdan) works as a private detective in Paris after completing his law degree. He always wears a blue suit and a red bow tie. He never comes across as a real hero as his motivation is apparently just to make money. At first Jeff drives a yellow Renault Dauphine , but since it is destroyed, he later drives a red Fiat Dino .

Theodor "Teddy" Bär (in the original: André Papignolles, called Libellule) is a former criminal who was known as Teddy the trickster . Jeff Jordan helps him stay on track. Teddy is a specialist in cracking safes. He always wears a yellow suit, is a bit chubby and probably likes schnapps very much. He's still in contact with his old criminal friends, but Jeff Jordan knows everything about them. Teddy seems to have fallen a little in love with the secretary Steffi Graf, he even takes her out to dinner sometimes, which always ends badly because Teddy either tells one of his jokes that only he laughs at, or Jeff has received a new assignment.

Inspector Babbitt (in the original: Inspecteur Jules Annibal Croûton) is a dodgy police inspector who, together with Jeff Jordan, manages to solve the most difficult cases. His distinguishing marks are a black suit (gravedigger suit) and an oversized mustache. Stiesel's constant guerrilla warfare with Teddy provide the humorous highlights of the comic. No matter where Jeff Jordan and Teddy Bear are, they always meet Inspector Stiesel by chance.

Steffi (later also Steffi Graf, originally: Queue-de-Cerise) is Jeff Jordan's boyish secretary who saves Jeff and Teddy’s lives in the first story. She says that Teddy is a childish bully. You only rarely see them in the later comics (volumes 9-16).

Similar to Hergés Tim from Tintin , Jeff Jordan has little charisma . It's the fellow actors, especially Teddy and Babes, who carry the comic. However, Jeff is dressed very stylishly in the late 1950s style.

Albums

The full albums are published by Carlsen Verlag . Parts of the series were previously published by Rolf Kauka under the title Harro and Platte . The title from the Kauka publication should not be confused with the series Harry and Platte . The complete edition has been published by Ehapa since 2009 .

The stories have different lengths. The first story extends over two albums ( Teddy pulls a leash and cocaine and old masters ), while, for example, The Disappeared U-Boat contains four stories.
