In process engineering apparatus, all internal components are referred to as internals .

They mostly serve to guide the flow

• Flow breakers in stirred tanks and
• Wind and flow baffles,
• Inlet pipes
• Liquid collector / distributor

the phase separation

• Droplet separator

or the creation of a large mass transfer surface

• Column internals.
  • Floors ( replacement floor ),
  • Random packings or unstructured packings
  • Structured packs
