Structured packing

Structured packing

Structured packings are internals in apparatus in process engineering and in apparatus construction .

They are specially designed tank installations in absorber tanks (or columns), distillation columns and fixed bed reactors. A structured packing usually consists of thin, corrugated and perforated metal plates or wire nets. The design should ensure an optimal exchange between the different phases (liquid / gas or liquid / liquid) - with minimal pressure resistance.

For the delimitation of random packings, see internals .
