Indenter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Penetrators are bodies predefined by standards that are used in a hardness measurement process to penetrate a material.

The Shore , Brinell , Rockwell and Vickers methods are the best known and most common methods.

The indenter to be used is defined differently for each process. In the Brinell test, the shape is a sphere , in Vickers it is a pyramid . A test cone is used in the Shore method.
