Stone press machine

A press-in device, also known as a press-in machine , press-in stick or press stick , is a watchmaker's tool for pressing in bronze or brass bearings ( bearing bushes ). The functionally identical device for pressing in bearing stones is called a stone press device or stone press machine .

description

The device consists of a press frame with a lever for direct power transmission. The press frame has a guide with micrometer depth adjustment. Either a rotatable reamer holder with different reamers or a punch with different tips is used in this guide. Reamers , punch tips and anvils with exchangeable anvil plates are staggered in an accessory box .

function

In the case of bearing damage, pressing out and pressing in the bearing bushes or stones is the most common and fastest way of working in watchmaking today . The bearings for press fitting are cylindrical, well sorted and have a tightly tolerated diameter ( press fit ) that is precisely matched to the tool (reamers). The whole process consists of two steps.

  • Reaming: The workpiece is placed on the anvil and the bearing hole is reamed to size with a selected reamer.
  • Pressing: The workpiece is placed back on the anvil, the press die with the selected tip is set to the exact depth. Then the curvature of the bearing is placed on the hole in the workpiece and brought to the center with the press ram by moving the workpiece. First, light pressure is applied to the bearing so that it lies flat. The bearing is then pressed into the workpiece by applying greater pressure.

Application examples

  • Reaming of bearings with reamers to insert new bearing bushes or jewels
  • Pressing in and pressing out bearing bushes, perforated stones or cap stones
  • Correction of the play in height
  • Micrometric stylus

A power riveting machine with a pressing device is often used for the same purpose.
