The use-reuse Act (EinsatzWVG) are entitled to continued employment of soldiers and civilian employees of the armed forces , during an assignment abroad of the Bundeswehr were seriously wounded, as well as more than de minimis use damaged federal officials , federal judges , employees of federal and helpers of the THW .

It guarantees the person concerned that he can only be transferred or released from the armed forces within a " protection period " of up to eight years at his own request.

After the end of the protection period, he can assert a claim to further employment as a professional soldier or civil servant if he is affected by a reduced ability to work of at least 30 percent at this point in time and has subsequently proven himself in a six-month trial period ( Section 7 (1) of the Act) . If the term of protection still lasts at the intended time of the termination of the military service relationship, the transfer to a military service relationship of a special kind takes place and thus an extension of the protection period. This is especially true of reservists .

The regulation is also provided for damage to health that is only recognized after the end of the service period. This is mainly aimed at victims with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
