With hermitage Ringethal a former will hilltop castle on a rocky outcrop above the Zschopau southwest of Ringethal in Saxony called. The complex was probably built in the 13th century.
Description and history
Due to its location, the complex can be counted as a spur castle type . It had a stretched-oval core work of about 10 by 35 meters on a cliff above a loop of the Zschopau. In front of it runs in the northwest a section trench about 8 meters wide and 1 meter deep. The bottom of the trench is about 3 meters lower than the core plant plateau. In front of the trench there is another elongated oval plateau with an area of about 7 by 20 meters and another section trench 10 meters wide and 0.5 meters deep.
The lordship Ringethal consisted of the knight seat Ringethal and the farming villages Falkenhain, Hermsdorf and Erlebach. Initially laid out on the Arnsberg Hermitage Ringethal , the lordship was moved to Lewenhain Castle on the steep banks of the Zschopau in 1315 .
