The Raubschloss Ringethal (or castle Lewenhain ) is an Outbound hilltop castle on a rocky outcrop above the Zschopau west of Ringethal in Saxony . The complex was probably built in the 13th century.

Description and history

The first written mention comes from the year 1221 as the manor Vlricus de Ringenhagen . Due to its location, the complex can be counted as a spur castle type . It had an irregular core work of around 15 by 22 meters on a cliff above a loop of the Zschopau. The core plant was built with artificial ruins in 1804 . In front of it, a section trench about 7 to 8 meters wide and an outer wall 5 meters wide run from the west over the north side to the east . The trench is about 8 meters deeper than the core plant plateau. The outer wall includes or bypasses natural rock cliffs. In the north and east in front of this wall there is another ditch and an outer wall. In the south and southeast, the steep slope forms the natural boundary.

The lordship Ringethal consisted of the knight seat Ringethal and the farming villages Falkenhain, Hermsdorf and Erlebach. Initially laid out on the Arnsberg (hermitage) in a Zschopau loop on a rock spur, the mansion was relocated to the robbery castle in 1315.

present

The complex was placed under ground monument protection in 1962 . It can be walked on along laid out paths, and inscriptions indicate the history of the place. The Zschopau loop can be viewed from the former core plant.
