Goals of the warm-up

Warm up voice

The voice, the vocal cords and the entire vocal apparatus can be seen as a large muscle that has to be warmed up slowly and gently before maximum stress. As in competitive sport, before the actual training starts, you have to warm up to warm up the muscles, prevent injuries and enable permanent stress. Singing in should therefore prepare you for a greater load.

Opening ritual (in choir singing)

Singing in should create a transition between everyday life and choir rehearsals in amateur choirs. Therefore, breathing and body awareness exercises are often performed.

Voice training (in choir singing)

When singing in, various exercises for voice training are often used, which are intended to influence the entire choir sound and address individual aspects such as ambitus, articulation and timbre.

Types of warm up exercises

The types of warm-up exercises differ depending on the purpose and goal. Usually you will find exercises in the following areas:

Often times, simple songs, canons or other well-known melody sequences are used for singing.

Trivia

Well-known artists think very differently about singing in. While Jeanette Biedermann is known for her persistent familiarization exercises, Robbie Williams prefers to devote herself to other preparatory measures such as massages and make-up. At the beginning of his career, Bruno Mars tried to counteract his excitement before concerts with extensive warm-up exercises.
