The single tree is a vantage point above Gernrode on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt at an altitude of about 315  m above sea level. NHN .

Unless obstructed by vegetation, there is a view of the town of Gernrode to the north below the viewpoint and the Hotel Stubenberghaus to the north-west . There is a massive stone historical bench at the lookout point. It bears the inscription THE MEMORY OF MAX BALDAMUS on the back of the seat . The Berlin engineer Max Baldamus, who was often a tourist in Gernrode, was the founder of the bank.

The viewpoint and the surrounding area are currently (as of 2018) overgrown by dense forest. The name of the viewpoint goes back to a time when the point was prominently highlighted by a single tree standing there. State road 243 runs below the lookout point. The Selketalstieg leads south of the individual tree . From the southeast, a branch path leads to the viewpoint.
