Eisbach Bridge
The Eisbachbrücke is a bridge in Munich .
location
The Eisbachbrücke is located in the Munich district of Lehel on the southern edge of the English Garden . It leads the Prinzregentenstrasse over two Munich city streams that merge behind the bridge to the Eisbach .
history
The Eisbachbrücke was built in 1890 on the Prinzregentenstrasse, which crossed the city streams, which mostly ran in a south-north direction, as an east-west connection.
The Papiererbach , Stadtmühlbach and Stadtsägmühlbach originally flowed under the three arches of the bridge and merged behind the bridge to form the Eisbach, after which the bridge is named. Since the Papiererbach is now open, the western arch of the bridge is walled up.
description
The Eisbachbrücke is an arch bridge with three arches, each with a span of 4.90 m.
After the city streams had been arched over, the southern edge of the street was built on. Therefore, only the northern balustrade at the English Garden can be seen in the street scene from the bridge.
Behind the bridge, the current in the Eisbach creates a wave that is very popular with river surfers .
