A railway crossing (abbreviated ee ) is the height free crossing of a railway line with another traffic route , which is passed under the track. An at-grade crossing a railway with a road, a road or a place, however, is in Germany a railroad crossing , in Austria a railroad crossing .

The term railway overpass can also be understood as a designation for an intersection of two railways at different levels, which in technical language is, however, referred to as an overpass or crossing structure. The level intersection of two railroads is a railroad crossing .
