The Jonava Railway Bridge ( lit. Jonavos Gelezinkelio tiltas or Jonavos Gelezinis tiltas ) is a railway bridge over the Neris in the town of Jonava ( Jonava Rajongemeinde ) in Central Lithuania . It is located in the Paneriai district . There is a Jonava railway bridge bunker at the bridge .
The bridge crosses two streets next to the river, the Panerių gatvė on the right bank of the river on the city side and the A6 / E262 (Taurostos gatvė) on the left bank. The access to the bridge is via two ramps; At the beginning of the northern ramp, the four-lane J. Basanavičiaus gatvė is crossed on an overpass.
history
The old railway bridge in Jonava was built in 1914. The project author was Petras Vileišis (1851–1926). In the autumn of 1937 the Lithuanian Army built active reinforced concrete bunkers to defend the bridge according to the project of Major Juozas Vitkus . They were the first in Lithuania to be planned and built by local engineers. The bridge was destroyed during the Second World War . A new bridge was built 20 meters further downstream from the Neris towards Kaunas . An old pillar of the railway bridge remained in the Neris. In 2008 it was planned to build a sculpture for Žemyna here.
