The Brandenburg Railway Museum in Falkenberg (Elster) is a museum facility in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg . It is located in the rooms of the former canteen of the former depot of the Falkenberg (Elster) station .

history

As early as the 1980s, efforts were made to build a railway museum at the Falkenberg / Elster railway junction. Initially, the project came very close with the establishment of a "technical cabinet" to represent the local railway history and the installation of a class 52 steam locomotive as a technical monument .

The entrance to the railway museum is behind DB shunting tracks.

The museum was finally opened in 1994 by the association “Brandenburgisches Eisenbahnmuseum Falkenberg (Elster)” eV founded a year earlier. The task and aim of the facility is to process the railway history of the junction. This includes collecting and exhibiting typical railway vehicles, systems, devices and historical documents of the location and its surroundings. The reception hall of the former station building was initially used as an exhibition area. After the Deutsche Bahn AG announced their own needs, however, they moved into the vacant premises of the former DRK station service in 1998 , which were soon no longer sufficient.

Since July 2006, the Falkenberg Railway Museum has been located in the premises of the former canteen of the now closed Falkenberg (Elster) railway depot .

exhibition

In addition to a class 52 steam locomotive , which once belonged to the Falkenberg (Elster) depot and is currently listed as a technical monument on the state of Brandenburg's list of monuments, the exhibition also houses a model of the Falkenberg station building that was destroyed by bombing at the end of the Second World War . There are also display boards on the history of the railway, photographs of historical locomotives, showcases with historical documents, work materials and uniforms. Small technical devices such as ticket printers, old scales, lamps and individual items from former station equipment are also on display. The museum has an archive with extensive picture and text documents.

In addition, special exhibitions on various occasions in the history of the railway can be seen in the museum on a regular basis. In the past, these had topics such as “25 years of electrification at Falkenberg station”, “65. Anniversary of the bombing of the station and the city of Falkenberg ”,“ 20 years of monument locomotive 52 5679 ”and“ 100 years of the Neuburxdorf-Mühlberg line ”.
