Flaujac railway accident
The Flaujac railway accident was a head-on collision on August 3, 1985 near the Flaujac-Gare station in France , after the mistake of two neighboring dispatchers . 35 people died.
Starting position
Flaujac station was on the single- track Brive-la-Gaillarde – Toulouse-Matabiau line . The dispatchers were stationed in the neighboring Assier and Gramat stations . On the day of the accident , one of the dispatchers was working as a temporary worker. The train protection was carried out exclusively by train reporting between the dispatchers.
In the opposite direction, the express train 6153 ran from Paris to Capdenac and a railcar that ran as the local train 7924 from Rodez to Brive . The latter had a scheduled stop in Flaujac.
the accident
The two dispatchers did not communicate with each other according to the rules. A misunderstanding arose, so that the local train was given the exit from Flaujac station, although the express train was still on the route and was coming towards it. A head-on collision followed.
consequences
35 people died, 165 were injured, 29 of them seriously.
