In the railway accident in Kuneru on January 21, 2017, an express train derailed near the train station in Kuneru , Vizianagaram , Andhra Pradesh , India . 41 people died.

Starting position

The Hirakhand Express , the scheduled train 18448 of the East Coast Railway , the regional railway company of Indian Railways , was on the way from Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar . He drove 21 passenger cars , one baggage car and was pulled by a diesel locomotive. About 600 travelers were on the train.

the accident

On January 21, 2017 at around 11 p.m., the train's locomotive and nine passenger cars derailed near Kuneru Station. A large number of the other wagons on the train were damaged in the accident . The cause of the accident is still unknown. Sabotage, initially suspected by the railway, was ruled out by the police. The railway is now assuming defective brakes or an error by the locomotive driver .

consequences

41 people died, 68 were also injured.

According to N. Chandrababu Naidu , Prime Minister of Andhra Pradesh , the accident investigation began on January 22, 2017. The Railway Safety Commissioner will investigate the accident.
