Loitsch railway accident

In the Loitsch railway accident on October 1, 1917 , an ammunition transport exploded in the Loitsch train station (today: Logatec , Slovenia ) on the Austrian Southern Railway . 34 people died.

Nine freight wagons were parked in the Loitsch train station and transported 90 tons of cannon ammunition packed in boxes. At 1:30 p.m. the ammunition exploded for an unknown cause. 34 people died and 75 others were injured. Railway systems and buildings in the area, as well as 53 freight cars were destroyed, others damaged. The following fire could only be extinguished after three days.
