Pin Lok railway accident

The Pin Lok railway accident was the collision of a freight train with a passenger train at Pin Lok in December 1910. 31 people died. This was the worst railway accident in China to date .

Starting position

A passenger train was traveling on the Beijing – Wuhan railway and was approaching Pin Lok Station . There was a freight train ready to go.

the accident

The engine driver of the freight train drove out of the station into the line, so that the two trains collided. Almost all the cars on the trains derailed and pushed into one another. The locomotive driver and stoker of the passenger train's locomotive were killed in the impact. 29 travelers - all from car 3rd class - were also killed instantly or even died at the accident site. The end car of the passenger train detached itself from the formation, remained on the track and rolled back 6 km down a gradient.
