Revigny-sur-Ornain railway accident

The railway accident in Revigny-sur-Ornain was the collision of a freight train on one in the station of Revigny-sur-Ornain standing passenger train in 1946. 31 people died on 12 November.

Starting position

A local train that many school children also used stopped at Revigny-sur-Ornain station. During the passenger exchange, there were also numerous people on the platform . The rear of the train was secured by light signals . A freight train approached from there. The fog was thick.

the accident

The locomotive driver of the freight train did not recognize two consecutive signals showing "Halt" . At about 60 km / h he drove into the station and hit the rear of the passenger train, the last three cars of which pushed into one another.

consequences

31 people died, about half of them school children. There were also numerous dead and injured on the platform. All of the dead were residents of Revigny-sur-Ornain.
