Philipp Gmür

Philipp Gmür (born April 16, 1963 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss lawyer and insurance manager. He has been Group CEO of Helvetia Insurance since September 1, 2016 .

education

Gmür holds a doctorate in law from the University of Freiburg and a master's degree from Duke University School of Law in Durham , North Carolina. He is also admitted to the bar. In 2008, Gmür completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston , Massachusetts.

Professional career

Gmür initially held various positions as a lawyer before joining Helvetia Insurance in 1993. After assuming responsibility for the general agency in Lucerne in 1995, further management positions followed within Helvetia Insurance Switzerland in Basel . From 2000 to 2002, as a member of the Swiss executive board, he was responsible for sales management, and from 2003 to 2016 he was CEO of the Swiss national market and a member of the executive board of the Helvetia Group. In September 2016 Gmür was appointed Group CEO of Helvetia Holding AG. As CEO of the Helvetia Group, Philipp Gmür is responsible for the implementation of the helvetia 20.20 corporate strategy initiated in 2016.

During his time at Helvetia Insurance Switzerland, Philipp Gmür initiated several takeovers of Swiss insurance companies, including Alba Allgemeine Versicherungs-Gesellschaft AG (Alba), Phenix Versicherungsgesellschaft AG and Phenix Lebensversicherungsgesellschaft AG (Phenix) in 2010. In 2014, he integrated also the insurance group Nationale Suisse in Switzerland. In 2016, Helvetia acquired a majority stake in the online mortgage broker MoneyPark under his leadership.

For his internal communication with the employees in the change process, which he led and shaped as part of the takeover of the insurance company Nationale Suisse, Gmür received the award “Communicator of the year 2016” from the Swiss Association for Internal Communication (SVIK).

Gmür is a board member of the Swiss Insurance Association (SIA) and of economiesuisse. He is president of the funding company of the Institute for Insurance Economics at the University of St. Gallen , on the board of trustees of Avenir Suisse and a member of the steering committee of digitalswitzerland. He is a member of the boards of directors of Allreal Holding AG and Grand Casino Luzern AG.

As an active member of the Safran Guild , Philipp Gmür held the position of guild master and Fritschivater in traditional Fritschiraub in 2008. For the city of Lucerne, the Fritschivater is considered the highest Lucerne during the Carnival period.

family

Philipp Gmür is married to the politician Andrea Gmür-Schönenberger . They have four children together. One of his brothers is Felix Gmür , Bishop of Basel .
