Sagzi-Nibod railway accident

The Sagzi-Nibod railway accident on December 31, 1970 near Sagzi , Isfahan Province , Iran , was a rear-end collision in which more than 70 people died.

the accident

A passenger train carried around 300 railway workers and miners who were working on a new line to Isfahan for the New Year celebrations . Due to the fault of an interlocking attendant and inadequate communication connections, the train was directed to a track on which a freight train was already parked .

consequences

70 people died and 130 others were injured. A government spokesman named the number of 15 dead. The much higher number comes from media reports.
