Stalać railway accident

The railway accident Stalac was the edge ride a freight train into a passenger train on 13 September 1979 at the railway station of Stalac , Yugoslavia . 60 or more people died.

Starting position

Stalać was in Yugoslavia (today: Serbia , Rasina district , Ćićevac municipality ) on the Belgrade – Niš railway line .

The passenger train No. 771 from Belgrade to Skopje was parked in the Stalać station. From the direction of Kruševac , the goods train 8335 drove towards the station, against which the passenger train was secured by an entry signal that told the locomotive driver of the goods train to “stop”.

the accident

The locomotive driver of the freight train had intervened in the train protection contrary to the regulations, removed the seal and switched off the dead man’s protection . As a result, he did not perceive the entry signal showing "Stop". The freight train drove into the flank of the passenger train at around 40 km / h . Four passenger cars and two freight cars were smashed.

consequences

60 people died and 116 were injured. Among the victims were many cadets from the military academy on the way to Skopje.
