In the Tipton Ford railway accident on August 5, 1914, a railcar collided with an oncoming train at Tipton Ford , Missouri , USA . 47 people died.

The Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad's diesel-electric multiple unit was en route from Joplin to Harrison. He used a single track route on the Kansas City Southern Railway . The railcar was so full that some passengers even had to stand. In Joplin, the driver received instructions to perform the train crossing in Tipton Ford with an oncoming train of the Kansas City Southern Railway , which was pulled by a steam locomotive. Instead of stopping, the driver drove through Tipton Ford station and crashed into the steam locomotive of the oncoming train at around 110 km / h. The railcar went up in flames due to leaking fuel.

47 people died, including from the burns they had suffered , and 25 were also injured. This was the first serious accident involving a railcar in the USA.
