Eisenweg (Ore Mountains)

The Eisenweg is a high-altitude path in the Ore Mountains, the historical course of which follows the Ore Mountains north rim . According to local history, it is said to have been used to transport iron ore from the area around Schneeberg as early as the Middle Ages. The route that is still marked today extends from Katzenstein near Affalter and runs through the Streitwald to the Tobacco Fir and on through the Bürgerwald, past the Black Cross monument to the Harthauer Berg south of Chemnitz on the federal road 95 .

Today the Eisenweg is a popular route for hikers and cyclists, which connects the area south of Chemnitz with the hiking trails of the central Ore Mountains.
