The Ice Skating Club Wörthersee (EVW), founded in 1890 and based in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee , claims to be the world's largest supervisor of natural ice surfaces. His sphere of activity are Carinthian ponds and lakes as well as the Klagenfurt Lend Canal .

Ice care and safety

After checking both the load-bearing capacity and the navigability of the ice sheets, ice masters are responsible for clearing them for public skating. The maintenance of the surfaces with the appropriate equipment falls within the competence of Eiswarten. A total of 32 clearing vehicles are available to maintain the ice surfaces. The 56 volunteers of the association ensure the operation of the organizational aspects.

society

According to the association's statutes , no profit may be made. The operating costs incurred as a result of ice maintenance as well as expenses for the purchase and maintenance of equipment such as safety equipment are covered by donations and low entrance fees.

After the association was founded, it leased the basement rooms of the former Sonnenbastei (today's funeral) in Klagenfurt in order to store ice there in winter, which was then sold at a profit in summer to restaurants.

Sports sections

The association is active in the three areas of figure skating , speed skating and roller figure skating . Trainers get young talents in shape. They represent the club externally at national and international competitions by trying to achieve good placements. In the long history of the club, you can look back on European and world champions.
