The ice rink Paul-Heyse-Straße is a training and venue for various Berlin ice sports and ice hockey clubs in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg . Teams such as the Berlin Ice Skating Club , FASS Berlin and ECC Preussen Berlin train here . The hall is located in the immediate vicinity of the Velodrom . The ice rink on the corner of Paul-Heyse-Straße and Conrad-Blenkle-Straße thus offers a supplement to training and match operations and can be equipped with stands for up to 250 spectators in the event that other Berlin ice rinks are too busy.

history

The ice rink is an old factory building, which was extensively renovated between 2006 and 2007 and equipped with new cabins and sanitary facilities. The renovation was necessary mainly because of the asbestos used in the construction . The ice rink was not a factory building, but a sports facility. The entire sports area was built on an allotment garden in the 1970s.

use

In addition to the professional and amateur athletes of the larger Berlin ice hockey clubs, the children and youth project Kick on Ice , an initiative of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Eisbären Berlin uses the ice rink. The project is under the patronage of Katarina Witt . It serves to prevent violence among young people and offers the possibility of free play times on the ice.
