Kingfisher (heraldic animal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kingfisher is in the heraldry an emblem .

The representation in the coat of arms can be very close to the natural form, or the bird is stylized in one color. The squat sitting posture or the nosedive are good indicators. A caught fish in the beak is also helpful in describing the coat of arms . In German heraldry, the well-known kingfisher Alcedo atthis is represented in the coat of arms and its blue tincture is dominant. The main direction towards the heraldic right is standard and deviations are to be mentioned in the description.

Mythology, sagas and superstitions about this heraldic animal are complex, but cannot always be represented in the coat of arms.
