Eivor is a Nordic female given name.

Emergence

The name comes from the Finno-Ugric language area and the Old Norse words "auja" which means "treasure" or "gift" and the proto-Nordic word "warjaR" which means "defense". The Old Norse form of the name was Eyvǫr. The name is most widespread in Norway , and a little in other Nordic regions too, such as the Faroe Islands . Different spellings exist as: Eivør, Eyvor, Øivor, Øyvor, Eivör and Eyvör .
