Ekona AG

The Ekona AG was a German trade and plantation companies in Cameroon , named after the small town Ekona in southwest Cameroon.

The company, based in Berlin, was founded on January 23, 1907 under the name Deutsche Kautschuk AG . The purpose of the statutes was the operation of plantations in Cameroon, in particular the rubber culture, leasing, acquisition and exploitation of real estate, undertaking commercial and commercial transactions and the participation in or acquisition of foreign companies.

The founders were Ekona-Pflanzung GmbH, Koke-Pflanzung GmbH, Viktor Hoesch and other industrialists as financially strong partners. Hoesch later also took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board. The share capital amounted to 2,500,000 Mk. In 2,500 shares of 1,000 Mk.

The company built especially Hevea rubber , cocoa , oil palm and kola to. The property in Cameroon was 4,000 hectares around 1908 . It also had its own palm oil plant, a soap factory and a power plant on site.

During the First World War , the facilities were confiscated by the British and French. On July 3, 1923, Deutsche Kautschuk AG was transferred to Ekona AG. The company's headquarters remained in Berlin. In October 1924 she was able to buy back the part of the property lying in the British mandate at an auction in London . At the beginning of 1925 operations were resumed. At that time, 2839.42 hectares were under cultivation. The products were transported with their own planting railway (main line 19 km, feeder tracks approx. 44 km), own barges and tugs for onward transport to Victoria and Tiko .

As a result of the high purchase price for the Cameroonian possessions, the company got into financial difficulties in the 1920s and went bankrupt in 1930, completely indebted .
