El Castillo (Belize)
The Pyramid El Castillo ( The Castle ) is the largest pyramid of the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich . It has a height of about 42 meters and is the tallest building in Belize .
A wide flight of stairs leads to the landing at a height of about 20 meters, followed by another pyramid structure, the upper platform of which is taken up by a temple that includes several vaulted rooms. From up there you have a distant view of large parts of Belize and the adjacent Guatemala .
The structures and ornaments on the outside of the pyramid are models made of fiberglass to protect the original wall further inside.
