El Comercio de Gijón

El Comercio de Gijón is a Spanish newspaper founded on September 2nd, 1878 by intellectuals and industrialists from Gijón , Asturias .

The editorship decisively shaped the content, which was dominated by modern business reporting. In its time it was considered a podium for the citizens' dispute, which had an impact on regional history. Alfredo Garcia reformed the paper from 1909 and later became its editor-in-chief . This included an increased turn to modern printing processes, which enabled the provincial newspaper to significantly increase the number of copies. The circulation sold between January and December 2006 averaged 27,449 copies.

Since 1995 El Comercio de Gijón belongs to the strongest Spanish media group Vocento . It took the step to its own digital edition. The newspaper is currently published in four local editions in Gijón, Asturias, Avilés and eastern Asturias.
