El Diario Montañés is a regional daily newspaper for the northern Spanish region of Cantabria , based in Santander . El Diario Montañés belongs to the Vocento media group and is the most important daily newspaper in Cantabria with a daily circulation of 39,702 copies.
El Diario Montañés first appeared on August 1, 1902 in Santander, the capital of the Cantabria region. After the devastating fire in Santander on February 14, 1941, which destroyed a large part of the city, the paper had to be published from Bilbao for a year . In 1984 the newspaper was incorporated into the media group of the Basque Country newspaper El Correo .
El Diario Montañés has had its own local TV station, Canal 8 DM , since 2003 , and the radio station Radio Punto DM since 2007 .
