El Muerto is a mountain located in the Andes on the border between Argentina and Chile . It is 6542 m high (according to other sources 6471 m).
It can be climbed relatively easily from Laguna Verde (approx. 4300 m), from which you can still drive a long way up in an all-terrain vehicle (steep, pathless walking terrain). You can get to Laguna Verde from the nearest town of Copiapo (approx. 250 km) and be picked up again, or you can hire a local guide straight away. You can also combine the tour with climbing the neighboring highest mountain in Chile and the second highest in America ( Ojos del Salado , 6893 m).
